Payoff headed to Charlotte, North Carolina, for FinCon 2015, a really inspiring conference for experts and digital content creators who care about all things finance.
While we were there, we shared our free Payoff Money Personality Quiz with as many FinCon attendees as we could and then watched as they were blown away by the personalized insights into their spending, saving and money habits.
Here are some key figures from the conference plus a snapshot of the FinCon community’s alter egos.
According to Dr. J. Galen Buckwalter, our chief science officer and one of the brains behind the quiz, the results from the FinCon quiz-takers are in synch with the national average, with the exception of The Storyteller and The Contrarian personalities.
Almost 32% of the FinCon population surveyed were identified as Storytellers. This is an outrageously high amount for any one type to show up at the same place. It is well over two times the frequency you would expect in a random sample, but FinCon is no random sample of people. These are the socially energized folks, the ones who had three appointments before breakfast, went to every meeting and didn’t end their day until a round or two of drinks with buddies they met two years ago.
And Storytellers are not just random energy, they are the group leaders. They’re as willing to read the background material for every lecture as they are to talk to every person who came to their breakout session.
The number of Contrarians was also significantly higher than one would expect. Contrarians are the folks who always have one more question, those for whom disruption is second nature. The fact that FinCon represents people who are dedicated to changing the financial services industry is consistent with this high representation of Contrarians.
Going up against the titans of industry is not for the faint of heart, but with this healthy representation of Contrarians, FinCon is assured of having people with the emotional and intellectual makeup needed to change the basic nature of our economy.
