The Blend — 10.20.15

Last week there was a study in the journal Nature Neuroscience that proved your mom right, you are a beautiful snowflake because your brain activity is as unique as your fingerprint. This study really got our attention because it echoes the goals of our Money Personality Quiz — personalization through science.

Everyone’s different. Some people are 13-day Jeopardy! champions, while others break world records. But the brain always has patterns. And that’s what we do with our 10 money personalities — identify the patterns in financial behavior associated with different personality types and help you make positive impacts on your routines, avoid bad financial enablers or just survive a road trip.

By identifying patterns in decision making, you can start to understand what makes people donate the money they got from owning google.com for one minute or start competitively collecting old AOL CDs. If we can get to the core of what truly makes us different, we can better connect with what makes us the same and create positive change, no matter how small, in all our lives.

Then we can all finally agree, that after 8 months of furious and heated debate, that the dress is blue and black.

What is it that makes you different? Let us know @payoff with #differentpaysoff.

This Week’s Blend

Kronor is not the name of one of Khaleesi’s dragons. It’s Sweden’s money. And it’s going away. Well, the paper version anyway. Like their dance partner Denmark, Sweden’s becoming a cashless society. We hope they’ve been practicing their dips.

Here’s a tip. Or not. One of the top restaurateurs in New York City, Danny Meyer, has decided to get rid of tipping at all his restaurants. Menu prices will go up, but so will staff pay and quality of life. Though, you probably still won’t be able to get a reservation and not just because the phones are always busy answering butt dials.

Childhood dreams do come true. We heard from Blah-blah-blah that Lucky Charms is having a contest where you can win an only marshmallows box. The contest is just for friends who use #Lucky10Sweepstakes. Watch the video now because it’s amazing and then you’ll get all these Biz Markie references.

Step two: put some leaves in a box. In pet rock news, you can now ship autumn foliage anywhere in the country.

Howl many world records do you have? A world record you didn’t know existed until right now was broken when 464 people simultaneously howled at the moon for a full minute. We followed up for comment, but no word yet if it was simply a werewolf bar mitzvah and the moon poked out from behind a cloud. In other world record news, have you ever wondered what the most prolific editor of Wikipedia does with his time?

Mad (cute) scientist. Newly crownedHeroes of the Internet,” Chinese geneticists created tiny adorable pigs. They said they did it because pig biology is more human-like than rats or mice, but we have a sneaking suspicion they did it just for more followers on Instagram.

Up in the sky, it’s … the moon. Instead of spending time daydreaming like the rest of us, Margaret Hamilton made it possible for us to walk on that big ole wheel of cheese in the sky. She also pretty much invented software. Another impressive woman Paige Chenault, founder of The Birthday Project, throws birthday parties for homeless children.
